Flapper won't open, no water
- Check air supply & pressure (should be 60-65 PSI) as well as water pressure (should be 20-40 PSI)
- Water is supplied to the top of the sequence valve. The Air (which operates the toilet) comes in at the bottom of the sequence valve. If your water pressure comes into the top of the valve at too high a pressure relative to the air coming in at the bottom, the spool inside the sequence valve will be forced down by the water, which will result in your flapper slamming shut and your cycle ending. The fix here would be to make sure that your water pressure is no higher than 40 PSI and that you have air pressure at 65 PSI.
- If these are where they are supposed to be, there might be water in the air system.
- Shut off your water to the toilet. Shut off your air to the toilet. Drain your air compressor tank(s) of any moisture (even if you have an automatic drip leg). Turn air to the toilet back on and flush making sure to hold the lever/button down until after the flapper has completely opened. Do this 10-15 times with just air supplied to the toilet as this will help dispel moisture from the various pneumatic valves. If toilet is cycling well with just air supplied, reintroduce water at recommended pressure.
- If so, you must follow these steps:
- Drain the air compressor tank, check filter regulator & drip legs for water
- To check inside valve, remove the adjustable timing valve (sometimes referred to in manuals as the “Bleed-Off Plug”), put finger over screw opening & flush
- If water is present, it will squirt out
- If water is detected, air cylinder & airlines must also be drained
